2013 Honda CivicIf you’re looking for an economically-friendly car that will also protect you, then take a look at the new 2013 Honda Civic. You normally wouldn’t think about the Civic being one of the top safety vehicles on the road, but things have changed. As a matter of fact, the 2013 Civic has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick Plus rating, becoming the first compact car to earn the distinction.

In order to be designated as a TSP+ rated vehicle, the Civic had to get a “good” rating from the IIHS in front and side impact tests, rear seat-based impact test, and the roof strength test, in addition to the newest small overlap frontal impact test.

Better Body Structure

Honda says that it’s because of its second-generation ACE body structure that the 2013 Civic is so well-protected. The 2013 model, when compared to the 2012 Honda Civic, received critical structural changes that allowed it to test better than previous models, especially with the new tests it had to face.

With the new Civic, Honda decided to use stronger materials that helped strengthen cabin space. The reinforced body structure allows for this compact vehicle to better absorb the frontal crash energy it may face. The improvements that the ACE II brings have added about 26 pounds to the car.

Other safety features that come standard on the 2013 Honda Civic includes Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control, driver and front passenger side airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System, and side curtain airbags.
