When it comes to compact hatchbacks, the 2018 Honda Fit and 2018 Kia Soul are two of the heavyweights. When the two of them get in the ring together, only one can come out the clear winner. This year the Honda Fit offers an updated exterior and two new colors, Orange Fury and Helios Yellow. Our sales team has been hard at work pulling together a range of information on both of these fuel-sipping compacts and have put together this review to help you make the right choice when you are ready to buy your next car.
In compact vehicles what’s under the hood plays a huge role in most people’s final decision. The idea being that even a small car has to have plenty of zip. The 2018 Honda Fit comes with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 128 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. The Fit comes with your choice of a 7-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a six-speed manual transmission. EPA fuel-economy ratings for the Fit 31/36 mpg*.
The 2018 Kia Soul comes with a slightly larger 201 horsepower 1.6-liter inline four rated at 195 pound-feet of torque. The only transmission available in the Soul is a seven-speed automatic. However, you will pay more in operating expenses as the Soul gets significantly lower fuel efficiency ratings at 26/31 miles per gallon.
The 2018 Honda Fit offers a spacious interior with comfortable seating and plenty of standard features. Among these are remote entry, air conditioning, a rear view camera, cruise control, a 5-inch display infotainment system with four speakers and wireless connectivity. The Honda Fit also features the 60/40 split folding rear Magic Seat that lets you set up cargo space to meet your needs. Moving up to the Fit Sport brings in a larger 7-inch touchscreen and an infotainment system with Android Auto® and Apple CarPlay® compatibility along with 6 speakers.
The 2018 Kia Soul offers an audio system with wireless connectivity, six speakers, satellite radio, and air conditioning. But if you want the Uvo interface a rearview camera, and smartphone integration, you have to add in the Convenience Package. With this package, you also get Android Auto® and Apple CarPlay® integration that lets you connect to your favorite apps and streaming music.
Those who opt for the 2018 Honda Fit with the CVT automatic transmission, you get a forward collision warning with emergency automatic braking, lane departure warning and intervention, and adaptive cruise control. The EX trim adds LaneWatch®, a camera to the passenger side mirror that gives you a clear view of traffic in the adjoining lane when you turn on the right turn signal along with many other important safety features.
