At Bosak Honda in Highland, IN we’re excited to have the 2013 Honda Pilot ready for you to take home. If you’ve been shopping around and the Pilot has come into consideration, comparing towing and cargo capacity may be your biggest concerns. We’re here to assure you that the Pilot has all the capabilities that you could want — just see how it stacks up against one of its competitors, the Nissan Frontier.

Power, Performance, and Fuel Economy

Honda’s mid-sized SUV really holds its own against Nissan’s full-sized truck — both vehicles put out very similar power numbers, but Honda is able to offer significantly better gas mileage.

The Honda Pilot produces plenty of power with an impressive 3.5L 24V V6 SOHC Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection engine. With 240 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque, you should be able to tow anything with the standard towing pre-wiring and hitch. The Nissan Frontier does put out slightly more power with 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque, but doesn’t come with towing pre-wiring.

However, the Pilot gets much better gas mileage with an EPA-estimated 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway (2WD model).* The Frontier only gets 20 mpg highway and 16 mpg city.

Safety and Capabilities

While both vehicles have standard or optional 4WD and four wheel anti-lock disc brakes, the Honda has a much better safety rating from the NHTSA, receiving the second highest rating of 4, with a perfect 5 in many areas. The Honda also adds the important brake assist that can apply additional necessary brake forces in the case of an emergency stop, and rear electronic parking aid with camera to make parking and reversing safer and easier. These features are not available on the Frontier.

Interior Capacity and Features

The Pilot is distinctly more designed for passengers than the Frontier. The Pilot is standard with seating for 8 and a maximum cargo volume of 87 cubic feet with convenient folding split bench seats. That’s more cubic feet than the Frontier has in its pickup bed and more seating by three. The Honda has more than enough capability and capacity to compete with the Frontier on its own terms.
