Honda: Where Safety for Everyone Matters
We’re big Honda fans not only because of the high-performing, fuel-efficient vehicles that can be found in our Honda inventory, but because for Honda as a company, safety matters. And not just for the driver or the passengers, but for everyone. If you want to learn more about what Honda has done to ensure this absolute commitment to safety, read on.
Honda, Safety, and Hugs
As recently as 2015, the 2015 Honda Fit received the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) overall five-star award; it was also named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Looking back at 2014, Honda had five Top Safety Pick rated automobiles from the IIHS, four of them being Top Safety Pick+. Over its history, nine Honda models have received Top Safety Pick+ or Top Safety Pick, beating out every other automaker.
Historically, Honda prioritizes safety. In the 1980s, they introduced the world to a front dashboard-mounted passenger airbag. In 2000, they opened the first-ever multi-directional crash-safety facility to research new safety technologies and witness the exact mechanics of crash-related physics. These innovations are just two examples of Honda’s unflagging concern for driver safety—for both Honda drivers and other drivers on the road.
But this commitment to safety goes deeper than simply besting the competition. At the end of the day, it’s about drivers and their loved ones. In 2014, Bruce Willis exemplified the automaker’s commitment to safety by hosting a “Honda Hugfest.” In a Super Bowl commercial, he brought home to viewers Honda’s concern for developing the world’s most advanced safety technologies.
In honor of those drivers whom Honda is committed to protecting—both Honda drivers and other drivers on the road—he asked Super Bowl viewers to hug their loved ones. Later on, he rated these hugs on the @Honda Twitter handle, emphasizing both Honda’s very human relationship to driver safety, and its desire to invent new ways of reaching consumers. Compassionate and forward-thinking: this is Honda.
